Chun Hui’s A3

Chun Hui’s A3

It probably goes back to the first time my dad took me to the Auto Car show in the Jacob Javit Center in New York when I was a little boy.

Chun Hui picked up his A3 2.0T prestige about two years ago and has slowly been perfecting it since. The result? A stunningly clean A3 with a host of modifications picked carefully for the car. Chun, like most of us has always been into cars. He says “I had always loved cars. It probably goes back to the first time my dad took me to the Auto Car show in the Jacob Javit Center in New York when I was a little boy.” Before the A3, Chun had owned a mostly stock Jetta. Looking to upgrade, he jumped on the opportunity to pick up the Monsoon Gray Audi, as it was a one of the first available in the particular combo he desired. Chun’s first order of business was to have the A3 Opticoated and Xpel wrapped to preserve the paint. After driving the car for a few months, Chun decided to up the performance of the turbo 2.0 with a GIAC Stage 2+ tune. He paired the tune with an APR turbo muffler delete and Billy Boat turbo-back quad-tip exhaust with custom electric cutout, giving the car a nice growl while helping the motor breathe better. Chun also opened up the intake system on the A3 with a VWR R600 cold air intake, CTS blow-off valve and Emmanuele Design turbo inlet hose. In combination with the Unitronic Intercooler and ECS high flow charge pipe kit, the result is a much more efficient intake system for the A3, which can make full use of its Stage 2+ tune. A Black Forest Industries catch can tops off the engine bay.

To handle the new power the car was making, Chun opted to improve the drivetrain of the car with a United Motorsports Stage 2 DSG tune and TyrolSport dead-set kit. He also installed a Black Forest Industries Stage 1 mount kit to further reduce drivetrain slop. The kit replaces stock engine, transmission and torque arm mounts with denser ones to increase frame response and improve handling. The Bilstein B14 coilovers help improve the A3’s suspension while also giving the car a more dramatic look and aggressive ride height. To further improve handling and get the most out of the A3 around corners, Chun chose to install Eurocode front and rear end-links with a set of H&R front and rear sway-bars. The result is an insanely well-built and well handling A3 that puts the fun back into driving. In order to control all that fun a set of

Stoptech 6 piston 355mm big brakes with USP stainless steel brake lines help shut down the car when needed. Watching the car roll down the road, it is readily clear how tight and planted the A3 is. The car embodies exactly what we like at Cleanaudi, which is a fine balance between looks and performance. Once Chun had covered the internals of the A3, he turned his attention to the exterior.

A RS3 matte black grille and Audi OEM carbon fiber mirror caps make the front of the car much more aggressive looking then factory, while still retaining an OEM+ look. The Emmanuele Design Pure carbon fiber front lip, rear diffuser and spoiler complete the race inspired look and help take the car from good to great. Small touches like the matte black vinyl wrap on chrome trim and light smoke tinted taillights fill out the OEM+ look that helps the car look so mean. To top it all off the Chun picked a set of HRE Flowform FF01 in 19×8.5″ all round wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sports. The interior also received some attention as well in the form of an OEM flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters and an Audi shift knob. The carefully picked modifications for both performance and looks help take this A3 from regular to stunning. Chun has worked hard to get the car to be as clean as it is, and the results speak for themselves. At first glance it might be easy to miss all the effort and detail that has gone into this A3, but as we looked closer, it was clear what an awesome project this A3 has become. As they say, the devil is in the details and it would be foolhardy to pass this A3 by.
